Our History
EmPRO Insurance Company (“EmPRO”), a wholly owned subsidiary of Physicians’ Reciprocal Insurers (“PRI”), was formed in July 2020 and, upon commencement of operations in September 2020, PRI’s decades-long medical professional liability book of business was rolled into EmPRO. As of October 1, 2021, EmPRO became the authorized insurance company within the holding company system through which all insurance business is written and all in force policies currently reside, while all EmPRO policyholders remain Subscribers of the PRI reciprocal exchange.
EmPRO, headquartered in Roslyn, New York, is the 3rd largest writer of medical professional liability insurance in New York State and the 13th-largest MPL insurer in the United States, with annual written premiums in excess of $190 million. EmPRO has long maintained a satellite office in Rochester, NY and opened offices in Hamilton Township, New Jersey in late 2023 and Boston, Massachusetts in May 2025 as it continues its expansion efforts into a regional carrier outside of New York.
