All too many practices employ unlicensed physical therapists, nurses, physicians, acupuncturists, nurse practitioners and physicians assistants. It is your responsibility as a licensed physician to check to make sure that any employee that requires an active license to practice, has a legitimate current license in the state in question. To do otherwise will expose you for all sorts of audits, as well as licensure exposure. If a charged service was performed by unlicensed personnel, if that license was required to perform that service, they can ask you for the money back. A word to the wise, do not take short cuts in this regard!
