Many of you are on call every few days. You will sometimes get a phone call in the middle of the night from the hospitalist covering your patient. Whatever your response, you must put it in the patient’s chart at your earliest possible convenience. For those of you who have the ability to “remote into” the EMR, do so. Make sure to time your chart note as to both the call and the time your appearance with the patient, if needed. Do not forget to sign your note, electronically or otherwise. This has been an area of concern with various state licensure enforcement agencies. Save yourself a whole lot of aggravation and follow my advice. Whatever you do, do not “blow-off the call.”
