Broker-Friendly Technology, Strong Claims Defense and Well-Respected Peer Counseling Contribute to Rapid Progress
ROSLYN, N.Y. – December 6, 2021 – EmPRO Insurance Company (“EmPRO” and “the Company”), a licensed medical professional liability insurance carrier serving physicians and healthcare facilities in New York State, marks its one year anniversary with the announcement that it has successfully migrated all the in-force policies of parent company Physicians’ Reciprocal Insurers (“PRI”) to EmPRO.
“This journey began in September 2020 when EmPRO was formed and capitalized with $100 million by its parent, PRI,” said Bruce Shulan, President and CEO of EmPRO. “Our goal in creating EmPRO was to do the best job possible to protect our insureds, treat them well, and further our relationships. We are thrilled to report that 100 percent of renewing insureds have now transitioned to EmPRO, and we are pleased with our progress in adding new individual and healthcare facility policies this year.”
“We have more than $425 million of improvement in the financial condition of PRI since 2017, and at year-end 2020, PRI was financially stronger than at any time in the last decade and its financial condition continues to improve,” he added.
Alongside the successful policy transition, customer service continues to be a major focus and point of difference for EmPRO in the marketplace. The Company has upgraded technology and created online portals, all with the goal of making it easier for insureds and brokers to communicate and do business with EmPRO. EmPRO has eliminated nearly all paper communications with its insureds, with most interactions taking place on the company’s portal, EmPROConnect, which provides 24/7 access to policy information, claims history, billing details, and a host of other service options for our insureds and brokers.

By building a legal team dedicated solely to the defense of its insureds, EmPRO has significantly improved both efficiency and advocacy. EmPRO also dramatically shifted its claims handling strategy, notably reducing the cost of some claims, resulting in stable if not lower premium rates for insureds.
Over the past year, EmPRO has not only supported brokers and insureds, but also devoted significant resources to supporting physicians and the broader medical community through the challenges of the pandemic. EmPRO has offered free counseling through its Virtual Peer Support Program designed to help healthcare providers manage stress during the COVID crisis. The program has addressed such topics as burnout and physician wellness.
